PRISONER NUMBER 46664

While on Robben Island, Indian and colored prisoners had a slightly better diet with more meat. The African prisoners protested that the diet should be the same, but the Indian and colored prisoners were concerned that their diet would be worsened in the interest of a “false equality”.
At this time, his eldest son was killed in a car crash; Winnie was under constant threat, ANC was in exile and the Apartheid government had consolidated its power, for Mandela it was time to plant a garden, the Authorities were suspicious, he explained that he wanted to supplement his diet and that of his colleagues with fresh vegetables, letters went back and forth within the Prison bureaucracy, Memos were written. Lawyers were consulted, finally in the dirt courtyard just in front of the rows of prisoners’ cells, guards were positioned to watch him dig and plant.
Although, the soil was not very good but he managed to produce some good harvests, at first he used his hands, but soon he acquired some tools, he asked family and friends to send him seeds.
While other men were playing checkers or reading or talking in the courtyard, Mandela tended his garden. He grew tomatoes, onions, chilies, spinach; he gave the vegetables to the kitchen. Of course the protests between Indians, colored and African prisoners stopped.
Mandela began to write about his garden in letters to Winnie and others. He related how his plants and vegetables were doing as if they were his own children. He talked about the seasons and the soil and his harvest. Soon Mandela would give vegetables to the guards for their families and they were supplying him with seeds. Before long, he was allowed to plant a second garden outside the courtyard
On Robben Island there were few pleasures, Mandela’s garden had become his private island, it quieted his mind. It distracted him from his constant worries about the outside world, his family, and the freedom struggle. While so much was withering outside, his garden was thriving, he got lost in it, and he loved his garden. I used to supply the whole kitchen staff at Pollsmoor Prison with spinach every Sunday, Mandela will later proudly say, years after his release.
In a world where he had no privacy and very few possessions, that defied and punished him, that seemed hostile to his values and his dreams, he made it a place of beauty and regularity and renewal. Although there was nothing he could do about the meat aspect of the protest, his effort was rewarded. The seasons changed in regular order. Seeds turned into plants, stalks rose. Leaves sprouted. That way; he was able to do his main work. Instead of the prison becoming a place of retreat it became a place of renewal.
His life was in service to others, and the garden was a respite from the turmoil and the storms of the world.( An excerpt from “Nelson Mandela’ Way”).
In living for others, he acquired peace from the storm that raged in his world, and that kept him going for 27 years, he emerged from Prison neither beaten nor bartered but better, stronger and victoriously celebrated, like shoes on the feet of the Almighty, our reason for existence is expressed when we are worn by HIM, only then are we admired and appreciated by others, only then is our beauty seen, only then is our purpose fulfilled. Like “Pencils in the hands of the Almighty”, we begin to write exceptional stories, effect outstanding change, excel extra ordinarily in the field wherewith HE has called us, but first we must belong to HIM, live for HIM, then HE will pick us, beautify and use us for the purpose for which HE created us. Live a life of service! Think Purpose!

Five -Ten Years from now what will your regrets be?

There used to be a drunk by the NCCF family house in
uyo. he was a cobbler but lived on cigareettes and
booze. he was tattered, dirty and unkempt. heavily
malnourished and in bad shape. many atimes, he
would lie on the pavement outside the family house
and had NYSC kits.. i was in uyo for over a year and i met him in that situation. yet, in my tenure. we spent
over a million naira on rural rugged for the rural
dwellers in the interior parts of akwaibom yet we
didnt spend one naira on this man who was our
closest neighbour. we had a lot of GENCO meeetings,
but he didnt fit to come up on our agenda. we could not keep the simplest commandment to love our
neighbours as ourselves. we could not feed the
hungry and clothe the naked just within our vicinity.
we had a lot of morning cries without cries and
travailings in prayer for souls. i now wonder if we
ever accomplished anything as corpers in that season.... we didnt give him the gospel,we diddnt
give him care or show concern. at least if he was
going to hell, couldnt we have rescued him despite
our vast pool of resources and people, for over a
year. My predecessors may have also seen him in that
state for many years and like the "PRIEST" and "LEVITE" crossed to the other side to engage in more
pressing "SPIRITUAL MATTERS". i remember that we
had even chased him out on many occasionss when
he came to fetch water in rags. he posed a threat to
us rather than a pathetic case that needed salvation. I
passed out in february, he was still in the same shape. I left uyo in april...same shape. I came to uyo
again for the state conference on june 4th and
behold on june 5th, a vehicle knocked him down just
in front of the NCCF FAMILY HOUSE and splattered his
blood for us to see on the highway, a reminder to us
if we are not actually wasting the BLOOD OF JESUS too. He died a few days later though the NCCF arranged
for him to be taken to the hospital and footed the
hospital bills.............can you see the irony....have we
not replaced natural and physical activities and tasks
for spiritual issues? ............. behold i grieve this
morning, i wonder if the man( we did not even know his name) is not calling on my name and your name
today if he is on the way to hell for i knew he was not
saved unless he was without my knowledge. we
condemned him, society condemned him and alas
the CHURCH OF CHRIST(SUPPOSED) also condemned
and forgot about him....... pls dont mind my grammar and punctuation errors for we are to much
concerned about them and church doctrines,
theology and administration nowadays than we are
burdened for the salvation of a SOUL for whom
CHRIST GAVE HIS LIFE AND SHED HIS PRECIOUS
BLOOD!!!!!!

Uncle Mordecai

Israel has sinned and the LORD is determined to send HIS people into Captivity, not to destroy them, far from it because HE swore an everlasting allegiance to Abraham their father, besides, HE loves them dearly, in fact HE is making provisions for their survival in the land of captivity, according to HIS records (Psalms 139:16.NLT) a time will come in Shushan that there will be an attempt to wipe out the memory of them from under heaven, so proactive measures is in place, a female remedy has been wired with beautiful tendrils, fashioned to supersede all the virgins that will be in her days in beauty, yeah! her hormones must secretes favor too she’ll need a double dose of that, as this will be the leverage to the fulfillment of her purpose – saving Israel from destruction - when the need arises in shushan, thus, to captivity they must go!.
But years later, when the ‘script’ has become a movie, Esther the "female remedy" became an orphan, I can’t remember seeing that in the script as part of the plan, and shouldn’t heaven have prevented this? Because without her parents how will Esther fulfill her purpose? But like a knight in Shining Armor, Uncle Mordecai appeared on the scene, and guided Esther to her destiny.
It’s so easy to love cute babies, all soft and sweet scented, beautiful smiles and a cherubic face, but what if that baby has no one to care for him, no beautiful clothes, no generous parent to afford the right diet, a sad faced infant gradually approaching teenage with the future so uncertain?
Be a Knight in Shining Armor to an orphan this holiday season as Team Purpose visits orphanages, invest hope and a purposeful future in the life of an orphan, buy a copy of Ben Carson's Gifted Hands for a dozen children, we were able to get the prices subsidized, so with N700 you can invest hope and a purposeful future in the life of an orphan, your copy will bear your name, and if you have a copy already contact us via teampurpose10@yahoo.com . Be a Mordecai!
Think Purpose!

NELSON MANDELA

I watched a video on Apartheid violence ,it demonstrates the struggles and cries of the South African people way back in the 70s, there was no one to fight for them so they fought and died for themselves but it was not enough, as apartheid grew stronger, an equally stronger voice was needed, someone was born to stand taller and talk louder to stop Apartheid, it was someones' destiny to fight for the land, that man was Nelson Mandela, he was not born to be a lawyer, earn his wages, feed his family, beget sons and daughters, acquire lands and properties and be no more, inside of him were the strings that will vibrate and sound ever so loudly throughout the world and put an end to the struggles of his motherland.
what were you born to do? why are you here?what will you be remembered for?
GOD created you for a particular mission, have you asked HIM what it is that HE has wired you to do?
Remember, salt does not exist for itself, but its purpose becomes fulfilled when it is poured into something bigger than itself, the LORD JESUS calls us the salt of the earth, a city set upon a hill that cannot be hidden. Are you a salt in the first place,as the secret of the LORD dwells only with those that fear HIM,HE is raising an end time army(Joel 2:3-11) and it is only men and women of Vision that will be enlisted in this army.Think Purpose, Think Destiny! with your Purpose
in the kingdom of your SON!

Godliness and Purpose

Exodus 8:28
"Only Ye Shall Not Go Very Far Away."
This is a crafty word from the lip of the arch-tyrant Pharaoh. If the poor bondaged Israelites must needs go out of Egypt, then he bargains with them that it shall not be very far away; not too far for them to escape the terror of his arms, and the observation of his spies. After the same fashion, the world loves not the non-conformity of nonconformity, or the dissidence of dissent, it would have us be more charitable and not carry matters with too severe a hand. Death to the world, and burial with Christ, are experiences which carnal minds treat with ridicule, and hence the ordinance which sets them forth is almost universally neglected, and even contemned. Worldly wisdom recommends the path of compromise, and talks of "moderation." According to this carnal policy, purity is admitted to be very desirable, but we are warned against being too precise; truth is of course to be followed, but error is not to be severely denounced. "Yes," says the world, "be spiritually minded by all means, but do not deny yourself a little gay society, an occasional ball, and a Christmas visit to a theatre. What's the good of crying down a thing when it is so fashionable, and everybody does it?" Multitudes of professors yield to this cunning advice, to their own eternal ruin. If we would follow the Lord wholly, we must go right away into the wilderness of separation, and leave the Egypt of the carnal world behind us. We must leave its maxims, its pleasures, and its religion too, and go far away to the place where the Lord calls His sanctified ones. When the town is on fire, our house cannot be too far from the flames. When the plague is abroad, a man cannot be too far from its haunts. The further from a viper the better, and the further from worldly conformity the better. To all true believers let the trumpet-call be sounded, "Come ye out from among them, be ye separate."
